The Western Visayas region has the most number of cases of violation of RA 9262 otherwise known as the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act (VAWC) among all the regions in the first half of the year, figures from the Philippine National Police (PNP) showed.
The PNP Directorate for Investigative and Detective Management (DIDM) said 15, 722 cases were filed with the police nationwide from January to end of June this year. Of this number, 3, 747 complaints were recorded in the Western Visayas that comprises the provinces of Antique, Aklan, Capiz, Iloilo, Siquijor and Negros Occidental.
Region 11 or Davao region came next with 3, 614, followed by Northern Mindanao with 2, 064 complaints. SOCCSARGEN came in fourth with 1, 307 cases followed by the Caraga region with 939 cases.
The PNP said 794 cases were reported in Metro Manila while 768 violations were logged in
Southern Tagalog region.
The Bicol region has 541, followed by Cebu, 472 and Central Luzon, 363 cases.
Eastern Visayas had recorded 233, Cagayan Valley has 156 and Western Mindanao has 109 complaints.
The Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) has the lowest number with 50 complaints received.
Last year, the PNP recorded a total of 16, 517 cases and in 2012 it received 11, 531 cases of violation throughout the country.
