Again, it was the women who dominated the week that was in Philippine show business, with exciting announcements, inspirational endeavors, and fiery revelations, all gathered here today in an all new edition of W.O.M.
The week that was in show business began on a very positive note as newly married celebrity couple Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera announced over GMA Network’s 24 Oras that they were expecting their first-born.
As congratulatory messages flooded social networking sites for the impending arrival of the royal baby of the Kapuso Prime Time King and Queen, the new mom-to-be went straight to work the following day and faced the press at her launch as 555 Tuna’s brand ambassador.
“Every three hours gutom ako!” exclaimed one of showbiz’ sexiest celebrities, who has long been envied for her 19-inch waistline.
Glowing, though still not showing, she expressed joy at being a “complete woman.”
“Siyempre, lahat ng babae pinapangarap makasama ang pinakamamahal nila sa buhay, at ngayong may asawa na ako, lalo pang kumpleto ang buhay ko sa bagong pinagdadaanan ko ngayon,” she shared.
Mrs. Dantes who continues to be blessed with a thriving career, added that she will continue to work during her pregnancy, especially as she is all set to tape for her upcoming teleserye, The Rich Man’s Daughter on GMA Network.
“In fairness sa GMA, tuloy pa rin ‘yung soap opera ko. Hindi ko lang kaya mag-Eat Bulaga kasi hindi ko na kakayanin [yung taping schedule]for The Rich Man’s Daughter,” she confirmed. “As long as hindi naman ako nahihirapan, at kung hindi naman ako masyadong puyat at mabigat yung mga eksena ko, sa advice ng OB, OK naman.”
However, on Friday, GMA Network issued the following statement regarding Marian’s much anticipated series: “Kapuso Primetime Queen Marian Rivera has withdrawn from her upcoming program The Rich Man’s Daughter and her GMA Pinoy TV guestings abroad due to her delicate condition.
“GMA Network fully supports Marian’s decision and strongly believes that Marian and her baby’s safety is first and foremost.
“We would like to assure her supporters that Marian will still be seen in various shows in the Kapuso Network. We pray for a healthy and happy pregnancy for our dear Marian.”
Meanwhile the top endorser’s new 555 Tuna family couldn’t be happier for Marian, especially since her big news fits perfectly into their “kumple-tuna” ad campaign.
“Our brand has found the perfect endorser in Marian Rivera, who is famous not only for her beauty and sass, but also for her genuine love for cooking and family. She truly is a complete woman,” remarked Greg Banzon, general manager of Century Pacific Food Inc.
Jasmine sizzles at 21
Proving that she is no longer just Anne Curtis’ little sister, Jasmine Curtis started her 21st year with four hot covers for several glossy publications.
On Tuesday, she held a post birthday celebration with the press (her birthday was on April 6) where she denied her beach photo shoots signaled a sexier change in image.
“I just want to show that at 21, I’m more healthy and fit,” she explained. “The covers don’t mean na mag-papa-sexy na agad. I just want to show my progress in having a healthier lifestyle, eating right and doing the right exercise. It’s a message to showing what you can achieve if you set your mind to it.”
Besides the magazine covers, Jasmine took on a more meaningful way to celebrate her landmark year by becoming a World Vision ambassador, pledging to seek sponsors for 21 underprivileged children under the care of the organization.
“I’ve been a World Vision supporter and advocate since 2010 and a foster parent to several children,” Jasmine revealed. “Since then, I’ve been receiving cards, letters and photos from my World Vision kids and it’s so heartwarming and fulfilling to see that they’re doing well in school and honing their talents.
“Helping the World Vision children reach for their dreams is a special experience that’s hard to put into words, but I want to encourage others to give back and experience this for themselves,” she expressed.
According to Jasmine, whose career is managed by Vidanes Celebrity Marketing, she spent her actual birthday at Maya Bay in Thailand’s Phi Phi Ley Island where she explored several beaches with her books in tow, and lots of time to reflect on her life. Posting a message of thanks to all those who greeted her on her special day, Jasmine chose to use the hashtag #Eagle21 to symbolize her strength and goal to reach greater heights.
“Now that I’m 21, I’m more inspired, and I vow to be more dedicated to my work and my life,” she ended.
AiAi, the ‘homecoming queen’
A whole generation of viewers has no idea that Comedy Queen AiAi delas Alas was a GMA Network talent many moons ago. Before joining ABS-CBN in 2001, she was with the rival network for nine equally long years, which is why on Thursday, she declared the words, “I have returned,” as she officially joined the Kapuso Network anew.
“Nandito na po ulit ako sa aking dating tahanan at parang buhay ko rin itong nangyayari sa aking career ngayon. Sa probinsya kinuha ako ng auntie ko na nagpaaral sa akin. Nung lumaon, nakabalik din ako sa nanay ko, kaya lang ang kaibahan, may Alzheimer’s na siya nun. Pero ang GMA hindi ako nakalimutan,” said a very emotional AiAi.
She was responding to the very warm welcome she received from the network’s top executives, led by GMA’s president and CEO Atty. Felipe Gozon, who went as far as saying that the comedienne had always been one of his favorites.
“Masaya akong nagbalik na si Ai-Ai sa kanyang pinanggalingan,” said Gozon. “Hindi ko nakakalimutang Kapuso natin siya. Medyo nagbakasyon lang siya at nagpunta sa ibang istasyon. Pero higit sa lahat, kaya ako natutuwa, hindi lamang magaling na comedienne si AiAi, magaling na artista at saka talagang professional, well, sasabihin ko na rin, si AiAi ay paborito kong personal.”
Also present at the contract signing were COO Gilberto Duavit, Jr.; GMA Entertainment TV’s senior vice president Lilybeth Rasonable, network vice president for Entertainment TV Marivin Arayata; vice president for Drama Productions Redgie Acuña-Magno; and vice president for Corporate Communications Angela Javier Cruz.
AiAi has a teleserye, Let the Love Begin, a morning show, a Sunday program, and projects with child star Ryzza Mae and top comedian Vic Sotto lined up for her at GMA.
Unable to avoid answering questions regarding her decision to leave a 14-year-old run with ABS-CBN, AiAi indirectly confirmed she had not been given much exposure on the network in the last two years.
“Ang last ko po sa kanila Dyesebel… Siguro marami lang silang nakaalang projects sa ibang artista.”
Asked if her rift with Kris Aquino figured in her decision to leave ABS-CBN, AiAi quickly replied, “Diba nagkabati na kami sa kasal [ni Marian Rivera]? She is a former friend and a former roommate [in the other network]. Ngayon magkapitbahay nalang kami. At nandito ako ulit sa GMA ngayon kasi gusto ko puro happy at positive lang ang buhay.”
She expertly avoided any more fiery revelations from her end by doing what she does best: make everyone laugh.
“Pero teka, na-late nga pala ako ng konti kanina kasi yung driver ko dinala ako sa ABS!” she wailed. “Sabi ko hindi na ako taga-Mother Ignacia [the rival network’s address in Quezon City]. Tiga-Timog na ako ngayon!”
On the same day, the Comedy Queen, dressed in a colorful gown complete with a tiara, held a parade around the GMA Network complex in Quezon City to let everyone know, “I’m proud to be a Kapuso.”
Andi: ‘I’m still in pain’
Despite never ending rumors that she is still very much in a relationship with Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada’s son Jake, the famously outspoken Andi Eigenmann declared on Thursday, “I’m still not over the pain we went through.”
It will be remembered that Andi’s relationship with the former president’s son went downhill after Jake’s mom Laarni Enriquez indirectly stated that she does not approve of his relationship with the young actress. Andi is a single mother to a beautiful daughter named Ellie.
“I choose to be alone for now because I already have Ellie and my priorities are different for now,” continued the 22-year-old spitfire from the famous Eigenmann clan of actors. “I want something that lasts forever.”
Andi said all these when she was asked on Thursday to compare her dating practices with her latest character Haley in the upcoming Viva Films production, Your Place or Mine? She is cast as a 19-year-old college coed who gets drunk in a bar and sleeps with a stranger named Clay. Even as she starts liking her one-night stand, her life takes a complicated turn when her father, to save them from bankruptcy arranges an engagement for her with the son of a business associate. Angry and frustrated, Haley pours out her heart to her best friend Seth who is secretly in love with her.
Playing Seth is Andre Paras, while Clay is portrayed by Bret Jackson who had also been recently linked to Andi.
Refusing to confirm or deny if they had been together, Andi nevertheless came to the Fil-Am actor’s defense when the latter was asked to react about allegations that he had been using his leading lady to get ahead in showbiz.
“Bret is a good person and a really talented actor. We met even before we knew we were going to have a project together and this is all a coincidence. As he says, if he wanted to use anyone to gain popularity, he could have done so long ago with his best friend who happens to be James Reid. And I’m clarifying this issue because I don’t want anyone thinking that I would go that low and have someone use me to get ahead. It isn’t becoming of me either,” she ended.
Your Place or Mine is based on the best selling Wattpad story by Turning_Japanese. It is directed by Joel Lamangan for Viva Films and opens in theaters nationwide on April 29.
