The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Wednesday ruled out the possibility of granting salary increases in time for Labor Day but some workers in 11 provinces will get pay adjustments in May.
Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said a wage increase will be granted to workers in National Capital Region (NCR) only after the public hearing next month.
“But it really depends on the decision of the Regional Tripartite Wage and Productivity Boards,” she stressed.
Baldoz however disclosed that the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board issued a new order raising the minimum wage rate in Cagayan Valley by P45.
It will take effect on May 1 and cover minimum wage earners in Isabela, Cagayan, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino and Batanes.
The Labor chief said the second tranche of the Wage Order for Central Luzon, which was approved in January, will take effect on May 1.
The adjustment will cover the provinces of Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, and Zambales.
Baldoz said minimum wage earners in Aurora will get a P10 wage hike on May 1 as stipulated in the wage order.
The Labor department will organize jobs fair in 43 venues in Manila on May 1.
