VILLABA, Leyte: World Vision distributed 18 pedicabs (cycle rickshaws) on Saturday to poor families in this town.The initiative aims to provide livelihood assistance to people living in Silad village, one of the areas hit hard by Typhoon Yolanda in 2013. World Vision identified the beneficiaries according to need, vulnerability and ability.“We prefer giving out pedicabs because this is what we think as the fastest way to recover their livelihood,” said World Vision West Leyte team leader Louie Bullanday. Pedicabs, which usually carry two to three passengers, are a popular means of transportation in Leyte province.The non-government organization (NGO) distributed 18 pedicabs in the village. World Vision has also provided similar livelihood assistance to Merida, Leyte, which received 31 pedicabs, in Matag-ob, Leyte, which got four pedicabs. Last year, it provided livestock, seeds and other crops inputs and fertilizer in other towns.
