Wrestling will be added in the calendar of events in the 2014 edition of the Palarong Pambansa.
It will be the 18th discipline to be contested in the annual multi-sporting event for student-athletes aged 18 and below.
The Wrestling Association of the Philippines (WAP) is closely coordinating with the Department of Education to ensure the successful staging of the Palarong Pambansa.
“We in WAP have been coordinating with DepEd, and shall soon present to the department our proposed implementing rules and guidelines for the initial staging of the wrestling event in the Palarong Pambansa,” said WAP Secretary General Karlo Sevilla.
The sports played in the 2013 Palarong Pambansa held in Dumaguete City were, “Archery” archery, “Arnis” arnis, “Aquatics” aquatics, “Athletics at the 2013 Palarong Pambansa (page does not exist)” athletics, “Badminton at the 2013 Palarong Pambansa” badminton, “Baseball” baseball, billiards, “Boxing” boxing, “Chess” chess, “Association football” football, “Futsal” futsal, “Gymnastics” gymnastics, “Sepak Takraw” sepak takraw, “Softball” softball, “Table Tennis at the 2013 Palarong Pambansa” table tennis, “http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taekwondo” “Taekwondo” tae kwon do, “Tennis” tennis, “Volleyball” volleyball and “Wushu” wushu.
“WAP looks forward to enjoying with DepEd what we have with the POC and PSC: an efficient and harmonious working relationship in promoting sports among the youth, and developing future Pinoy Olympic champions,” added Sevilla.
Powerhouse National Capital Region will be defending the overall championship titles in the elementary and secondary divisions.
