The Manila Times offers its deepest condolences to the family of the late Leonardo Belen, who passed away on September 3 from cardiac arrest.
He is survived by his wife, the well-loved Crispina Martinez-Belen, former entertainment editor of The Manila Bulletin; their children, Walden and Lester, and five grandchildren.
Belen, who is best known as “Tito Nards” in show business, was a movie and TV director/actor; scriptwriter; and author of inspirational books and novels. He is also behind the best-selling Defensive Driving Handbook.
His last movie was Pinoy Super Kid starting Buboy Villar. He was also a roving correspondent of The Manila Bulletin.
Belen was also a member of the board of directors of IBC 13, as appointed by three former presidents Fidel V. Ramos, Joseph Estrada and Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
His body lies in state at Loyola Memorial Chapels in Commonwealth, Quezon City. Interment will be on Wednesday, September 9.
