IN a span of less than six months, three police officers have been shuffled as head of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Public Information Office.
On Wednesday, the PNP high command announced the appointment of Chief Supt. Wilfredo Franco of the Directorate for Police Community Relations (DPCR) as Officer-in-Charge of PIO replacing Senior Supt. Bartolome Tobias.
Tobias has been assigned at the PNP Liaison Office as Special Police Assistant (SPA) to Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas 2nd. He will replace Chief Supt. Danny Pelisco, who will be assigned to the Directorate for Comptrollership.
Among others, the duties of SPA are to coordinate all the PNP’s activities with the Office of the Secretary of the Interior and Local Government (SILG), dispatching all instructions of the secretary.
On January 28, or three days after the Mamasapano incident that claimed the lives of 44 police commandos, Chief Supt. Generoso Cerbo Jr. was named the PIO chief and police spokesman replacing Chief Supt. Wilben Mayor, who was reassigned as deputy chief of the Directorate for Intelligence (DI).
On April 29, Cerbo relinquished the post to Tobias as the former was reassigned to DI.
Franco’s tour of duty at PIO will be short as the high command is waiting for the return of Mayor, who is currently on furlough.
“This was just a temporary arrangement as agreed upon by the PNP hierarchy while waiting for General Mayor who is on leave,” an official said on Wednesday.
According to the official, while Mayor will take over the post as soon as he returns, it is not yet sure if his designation will be full-time.
