Young Maranao takes spotlight at UP rites


Today, a Maranao will have the distinct honor of speaking on behalf of thousands of graduates at the 106th commencement exercises of the University of the Philippines- Diliman.

Arman Ali Ghodsinia, 22, will obtain a degree in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (MBB) and graduate as summa cum laude. He has a general weighted average of 1.176.

Ghodsinia’s mother comes from Marawi City. Born and raised in Manila, Ghodsinia had been to Marawi City only once.

His speech, chosen among the competition pieces presented by 12 other summa cum laude graduates, will be heard by 4,000 graduates a day before the Eid il- Fitr, a religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide to mark the end of Ramadan.

Ghodsinia’s story has inspired thousands of people, students in particular, who admired and complimented him for his success at a time when government troops are battling a group of terrorists in Marawi City.
