BAGUIO CITY: The youth will take an active role in climate change adaptation (CCA) and local disaster management programs that are expected to also strengthen their spirit of volunteerism and unleash their potential in helping build disaster-resilient communities. Empowering youth participation is spelled out in a Joint Memorandum Circular of the Department of Interior and Local Government and the National Youth Commission, where the LGU will engage the youth sector as member of the Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (LDRRMC). The Regional Development Council en banc recently approved the resolution of the Regional Social Development Committee (RSDC) of the RDC endorsing youth inclusion in the CCA-DRRM programs. Underscored in the resolution are functions of the youth representative, such as providing perspective in the DRRM and environmental preservation and conservation activities of the province, city, municipality, as well as acting as the lead connector and influencer of youth in the area.
