IBA, Zambales: The provincial jail warden here was ordered axed over reported anomalies involving illegal drugs and corruption inside the prison facility.
Governor Amor Deloso appointed retired Col. Amado Paneda as provincial jail officer-in-charge replacing jail warden Col. Romulo Salamat.
Salamat was dismissed following Deloso’s surprise visit to the jail on Wednesday where he discovered alleged irregularities and mismanagement of the facility. Among others, he said, inmates afflicted with tuberculosis and other contagious diseases are not isolated from other prisoners.
He noted inadequate cell facilities like bunk beds, comfort rooms, kitchen and lack of medical supplies and personnel.
Deloso also confirmed the rampant use of illegal drugs by the inmates.
The provincial government provides P220,000 weekly budget for the prisoners’ meals but reports reaching the provincial capitol say inmates were being fed only one fish a day.
Meanwhile, Deloso said P15 million will be allocated for a two-storey cell facility to include new comfort rooms and kitchen, medical facilities.
Additional buildings will also be constructed to separate inmates who are sick or suffering from contagious diseases and order for doctors to conduct regular visit to the jail.
