• Zamboanga fire leaves 600 homeless

ZAMBOANGA CITY: At least five persons were injured and hospitalized following a huge fire which broke out late Tuesday here.

The blaze hit the village of Santa Catalina, razing dozens of houses made of light materials that firefighters from different villages helped control after about four hours.

City Fire Marshall Clint Cha said the fire started in Marietta Drive and quickly spread through at least 600 houses.

Residents left homeless by the fire are now temporarily housed in government schools, where social workers and civilians distributed food and blankets to the fire victims.
