The Zamboanga pencak silat team led by Alshamier Ibnohasim collected four gold medals to dominate the pencak silat ohlaraga (sport silat) event of the 2014 Philippine Sports Commission-Philippine Olympic Committee (PSC-POC) National Games held at the Riverbanks Activity Center in Marikina City.
Ibnohasim defeated Jeffrey Coronel in the gold medal match of the men’s A45 to 50-kilogram to jumpstart Zamboanga’s campaign. Later in the day, Asmad Nadzkie crushed Jake Tuble of Capiz in the finals of the men’s B50 to 55-kilogram class.
The other Zamboanga pencak silat players that won a gold medal were Jul Omar Abdulhakim, who beats Emmar Progelia of Navotas in the finals of the men’s C55 to 60-kiogram and Armando Ducoy, who defeated Edgar de la Cruz of Capiz for the gold in the men’s E65 to 70-kilogram category.
Manila’s Michael Tesoro prevented a sweep by Zamboanga by winning against Iloilo’s Phyle Rey Demafeliz in the men’s D60 to 65-kilogram finals.
