ZAMBOANGA CITY: Classes in four barangays in this city were suspended on Monday after the said schools were used as evacuation centers of families displaced by abnormal weather condition. Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar of Zamboanga City ordered the suspension of classes in elementary schools in Barangay Limpapa, Manicahan, Tetuan and Tugbungan. The City government said that the abnormal weather condition in the area already affected about 69 families in Limpapa; 20 in Manicahan; 184 in Tetuan; 194 in Tugbungan; 17 in Divisoria; and 13 in Patalon. The City’s Social Welfare Development Office is currently conducting assessment and verification while personnel from the City Health Office led by Dr. Rodelin Agbulos are “doing rounds of evacuation centers to check on the health conditions of the victims, particularly the children.” This city had been experiencing continuous rain the past few days due to low pressure area in east of Mindanao embedded in intertropical convergence zone.
