Sean Terence Zamora of University of Santo Tomas (UST) and Andrea Pacheco of College of Saint Benilde bagged the President’s Trophy awards after gaining highest FINA (International Swimming Federation) points in the 87th Philippine Swimming League (PSL) National Series – 8th Sen. Nikki Coseteng Swimming Championship held at the Diliman College swimming pool in Quezon City.
The 15-year-old Zamora got 564 points after submitting two minutes and 12.65 seconds in winning the boys’ 15-over 200m Individual Medley. He defeated Lans Rawlin Donato of University of the Philippines (UP), who scored 544 points (boys’ 15-over 100m butterfly, 59.37) and Gwangju Universiade veteran Jux Solita of UST , who earned 524 points (boys’ 15-over 200m freestyle, 2:03.22).
Pacheco, on the other hand, scored 516 points on her 28.97-second showing in the girls’ 15-over 50m freestyle. Charize Juliana Esmero of UP Integrated School (511) and ikatlo si Aubrey Sheian Bermejo of Mindanao (497), settled for second and third, respectively.
“Isang paraan ang pagbibigay ng President’s Trophy na mapataas ang level ng competition dahil mas napu-push ang mga bata na makuha yung highest FINA points. Maganda ang resulta dahil maraming records ang nabe-break,” said PSL President Susan Papa.
Besides huge trophies, Zamora and Pacheco earned P1,500 each.
National Capital Region took the overall team championship with 3,018 points while Team Luzon placed second with 1,837 and Team Mindanao wound up third with 722.
Team Visayas placed fourth (355) and Team Overseas finished fifth (27).
Up next is the 88th PSL National Series dubbed as the 2015 Inter-school/Inter-club Class C/Motivational Yearender Swim Meet scheduled on Saturday at the same venue.
