The film festival with a cause, ToFarm Film Festival 2016 held a star-studded awards night on July 20 at the Rizal Ballroom of Shangri-La Makati.
It was a swift-moving well-conceptualized program that flowed smoothly, minus the kabaduyan of other awards nights.
The film Paglipay was the big winner of the night, with director Zig Dulay proclaimed as Best Director, Garry Cabalic winning Best Actor (tying with Bembol Roco for Pauwi Na), and Anna Luna going home with the Best Supporting Actress trophy. Paglipay would also win the Best Picture Award.
A feel-good side story to the awards night was how Cabalic was flown in from the mountains of Zambales by Festival Organizer Dr. Milagros Ong-How in a private chopper, no less. He would’ve otherwise missed the opportunity to receive his Best Actor Award.
The 2nd Best Picture was Pitong Kabang Palay by Maricel Cariaga, which also received the Best Ensemble Acting award, while the 3rd Best Picture was Dennis Marasigan’s Free Range. Cherry Pie Picache won Best Actress for her performance in Paolo Villaluna’s Pauwi Na.
The ToFarm Film Festival is the only local film festival that is focused on the lives of our farmers and seeks to engage the audience in their stories of success and failure, as well as how they survive as stewards of agriculture and nature.
This film festival is the brainchild of Dr. Ong-How, Executive Vice President of Universal Harvester, Inc., and is managed by Director Maryo J. de los Reyes who is also Festival Director.
