NGCP restores facilities damaged by typhoon

The Sy-led National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) announced on Thursday that it has completed the restoration activities of its transmission facilities damaged by Typhoon Pablo on December 2.

NGCP said in a statement that it has fully restored the last of the typhoon-damaged transmission facilities- the Cateel-Baganga 69-kilovolt line servicing SurigaoDel Sur I and Davao Oriental Electric Cooperatives, which wase the hardest hit NGCP facility by Pablo.

In total, the typhoon caused 551 NGCP structures to topple while 57 others were left leaning. For 22 consecutive days, NGCP worked to restore the damaged transmission lines to meet the December 25 target energization date set by President Benigno Aquino 3rd.

Also, many of NGCP’s equipment, including its helicopters used for hauling materials and stringing cables, were grounded by the heavy rains.

Pablo left seven NGCP transmission lines paralyzed, affecting the northern and southern parts of Eastern Mindanao. NGCP, on the other hand, assured the public that it is ready to conduct similar restoration activities to ensure reliable power transmission services.

”The corporation is also continuously taking necessary preparations and precautions to minimize the impact of succeeding typhoons on NGCP operations and facilities,” the company said.
