| Subaru’s presentgeneration Impreza has yet to receive its highperformance variants. In the meantime, the previous Impreza soldiers on in potent WRX and WRX STI trims. WRX has a small wing; WRX STI gets the massive one. Both are cool. |
SUBARU of America Inc., right before Halloween, revealed the 2013 Subaru WRX and WRX STI Special Editions that are intended for the ongoing SEMA Show. The new variants are in keeping with a long tradition of customized Subaru SEMA show cars, with the special cars getting jack-o’-lantern custom paintjobs in tangerine orange body offset by jet-black custom wheels, black front fender badges and exterior mirrors, and black exterior graphics.
The Special Edition WRX and WRX STI sedans are still the previous-generation Imprezas—not the latest models, which have yet to receive high-performance variants.
Subaru said the Special Edition pair is limited to only 200 WRX sedans and 100 WRX STI sedans. For a true custom look, the WRX Special Edition gets the dark interior trim from the WRX STI, including a black headliner. The Special Edition orange interior is also applied to the stitching on the seats, doors and shift boot, and custom orange trimmed floor mats. The WRX STI receives front fog lamps.
To be sold in the second quarter of 2013, Subaru said the Special Editions spice up its already potent lineup of all-wheel drive cars. The WRX and WRX STI models produce 265 horsepower and 305 horsepower, running through their standard symmetrical all-wheel drive systems.
The WRX STI Special Edition boasts a six-speed manual transmission, exclusive multi-mode Driver Controlled Center Differential, Subaru’s SI-Drive and a fully adjustable Vehicle Dynamics Control unit that allows for a track performance-optimized mode.
