THE Honda group, composed of Honda Cars Phils. Inc. (HCPI), Honda Phils. Inc., Honda Parts and Manufacturing Corp. and Honda Trading Phils., under its corporate social responsibility arm, the Honda Foundation Inc. (HFI),
announced it had conducted its reforestation program for the third year, with the latest activity held in partnership with Haribon Foundation to support the Road to 2020 project.
HCPI said that more than 275 volunteers from HFI, Honda suppliers, members of the motoring media, Honda riders’ club, PNP and various local governments traveled to Tanauan, Real, Quezon, to plant 7,500 tree seedlings of native species and help contain or lessen the flood surge coming from Quezon province’s two major tributaries—the Kanan and Kaliwa Rivers that discharge water to Laguna Lake.
The Road to 2020 is an environmental conservation movement that aims to restore one million hectares of Philippine rainforests using native tree species by 2020. The project raises awareness on the critical situation and deforestation of the country’s watersheds.
HCPI said that the Honda companies’ reforestation project is part of their longtime commitment to minimize the environmental footprint coming from their products and business activities. The Honda group of companies has pledged to rehabilitate 20 hectares of denuded land with 50,000 trees in a span of 10 years. To date, the total land area covered are nine hectares, with 15,000 trees planted.
According to HCPI, HFI will conduct a series of tree-planting activities to rehabilitate the remaining 11 hectares. It invites volunteers to participate in future projects, the information for which is available at www.hondaphil.com.
