THE updated version of BMW’s Z4 Roadster, billed by the carmaker as representative of the “interplay of classical proportions and state-of-the-art technology,” has been released.
The latest version gets fresh exterior features, detailed interior refinements and BMW’s new Hyper Orange design package, as well as the full range of the corporate ConnectedDrive functions. An optional BMW Individual hardtop is also offered, which is electrically operated to open up in 19 seconds, and even if the car is moving at 40kph.
In Hyper Orange trim, the latest Z4 wears bespoke Alcantara, black leather seats with Valencia Orange accents, and some metal weave trim. Other new cabin additions on all variants include high-gloss black surrounds and Fineline Anthracite wood bits. A range of light-alloy wheels that count a V-spoke 18-inch rim complete the changes. If ordered with the M Sport package, the car is fitted with adaptive M suspension, 18-inch M alloys, an aerodynamics kit that has larger air intakes, a special leather steering wheel and other unique pieces.
The Z4 will continue to be powered by a four-pot or two inline-six engines, all of which pack BMW’s TwinPower Turbo. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder makes 240 horsepower—enough to launch the Z4 from rest to 100kph in 5.5 seconds when combined with a six-speed manual gearbox and 5.6 seconds with the eight-speed automatic—while the 3.0-liter inline-six produces 300 horsepower, which is good for a 5.1-second run (with the six-speed manual). The top-range Z4 sDrive35is is propelled by a higher-output six-pot that shoots out 335 horsepower, allowing the car a 4.8-second sprint from rest to 100kph if the engine is mated to BMW’s seven-speed DCT gearbox.
No doubt, the new Z4 has the brawn to match its looks.
