Spanish dance is ready to enrapture Manila once again. Instituto Cervantes de Manila and the Embassy of Spain in the Philippines present En Danza, a Spanish contemporary dance and flamenco season that will bring the newest of Spanish dance scene this November.
Spanish choreographer Eduardo Guerrero will also be conducting a dance master-class for advanced students on November 26, 10:30 a.m., at Instituto Cervantes’ Salon de Actos. (For further information and registration, call 5261482.)
A contemporary show from one of the most renowned Spanish dance companies, Teresa Nieto & Co., and a flamenco performance featuring the young and promising dancer and choreographer Guerrero will take place at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza on November 27 at 7 p.m.
An award-winning dancer, teacher and choreographer Teresa Nieto received the Spanish National Dance Award in 2004 and two Max performing-arts awards as Best Female Dancer in 2007 and 2009.
In 1990 she founded her own company, Teresa Nieto & Co. and during over twenty years of experience, the company has earned several awards and worldwide recognition.
Al mal tiempo buena cara show is a compilation of various snippets of Teresa Nieto & Co.’s past shows, special moments encapsulating their work and style. This is the best introductory letter for its first performance in the Philippines.
Meanwhile, De Dolores is an homage to Eduardo Guerrero’s grandmother, the person who noticed his talent at the early age of six years old.
Guerrero is a young promise of the present flamenco scene despite of his age and has already performed with some of the biggest names in flamenco such as Eva Yerbabuena, Amador Rojas or Antonio Canales, among others.
For his first visit to the Philippines, Guerero will share his knowledge and talent in a master class on November 28, 10:30 a.m., at Ins-tituto Cervantes de Manila.
Flamenco and Spanish dance are nowadays indeed on the rise. En danza wants to bring to the heart of Makati the elegance and style of Spanish dance companies through these two avant-garde and innovative proposals. This is also in line with the new contemporary sound and lights featured on the walls of Manila.
En danza is jointly organized by the Embassy of Spain in the Philippines and Instituto Cervantes de Manila with the cooperation of the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports and the Comunidad de Madrid, with the support of Casa Europa/PORCELANOSA, BENCH, Emperador Distillers and Philippine Airlines.
Admission to all the screenings is free on a first-come-first-served basis. For more information, call 526-1482 or log on to http://manila.cervantes.es. Instituto Cervantes de Manila is located at 855 T.M. Kalaw St., Ermita, Manila.
