Emperor’s 79th birthday celebration

December 4 marked two special occasions at the Japanese Ambassador’s residence in Forbes Park, Makati City, where a cocktail reception-cum-cultural fair was held to celebrate their national day and the 79th birthday of His Majesty Akihito, the Emperor of Japan.

At the opening ceremony, His Excellency, Ambassador Toshinao Urabe expressed his heartfelt thanks to the Filipino people for their continued friendship via government, business and cultural relations. He stressed that both countries have been strategic partners, sharing common values and cooperating in various international fora.

“I am happy to report that our relationship is excellent,” he said in his welcome remarks. “Since my arrival, President [Benigno] Aquino [3rd] visited Japan twice last year, and this year high-profile business and political missions have continued to flow between Japan and the Philippines.

“In particular, I would like to note the highly successful visit of Secretary del Rosario in June. The secretary has consolidated trust and understanding of the Japanese leadership toward the Philippines.”

Ambassador Urabe also said that he was proud of the role of Japan played in the Mindanao Peace Framework Agreement and vowed that they will continue to support the lasting peace in the region.

“Please join me in a toast to the continued good health of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan and to the everlasting friendship between Japan and the Philippines,” he invited the audience.

Following the short program, guests enjoyed going around the “Visit Japan” promoting the products and tourist destinations of the Kyushu, Kumamoto, Nagasaki, Kansai, Wakayama Tochigi and Yamagata Prefectures.

Among the distinguished guests at the Ambassador’s Residence were Foreign Secretary Albert Del Rosario, Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin, Trade Secretary Gregory Domingo, National Security Adviser Gen. Cesar Garcia, Political Adviser Ronaldo Llamas, Papal Nuncio Giuseppe Pinto, members of the diplomatic and business communities.
