| Lovi Poe’s star is on the rise |
If 2012 has been a very busy year for Lovi Poe, 2013 may just be a year of changes for the talented young actress following rumors of her possible transfer to ABS-CBN, as soon as her contract with GMA expires early next year.
Considered as one of the prized Kapuso talents, her transfer could be a big loss to the network after her string of critical and box office movies (Guniguni, Thy Womb, Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles), as well as her notable performance in the recent television drama series Legacy.
According to news reports, ABS-CBN is even preparing for a grand welcome for Lovi and has lined up a primetime soap to be her maiden project for the network in case the move pushes through.
Lovi, however, says she hasn’t really thought about the possibility yet and instead wants to focus on her upcoming afternoon soap Yesterday’s Bride.
“To be honest, I don’t have any plans yet after my contract with GMA ends in the early part of 2013,” she related in a report. “I still have to sit down with my manager and discuss the matter with him.”
In the meantime, Lovi is concentrating on Yesterday’s Bride, which she says she wants to be “an acting piece again.”
Viewers will a very different Lovi in the series. Unlike her strong, feisty role in Legacy, she will be portraying a meek-as-a-lamb character who she describes as “mahinhin.”
“I’ve been associated with strong-willed and independent characters like the ones I did in Legacy, Temptation Island and My Neighbor’s Wife. But here in Yesterday’s Bride, it’s different. My character is subject to oppression and lots of emotional torments. She is the goody-goody type screen heroine.”
Lovi says she is quite excited about the challenge and feels it will test her versatility as an actress.
“It is going to be a challenge because I had to do a lot of adjustments for my character. Its quite different from the roles I’ve played before and creating nuances for a new role isn’t easy.”
She will be reunited with leading man Rocco Nancio, who she worked with in Love Bug, and Luis Alandy in the attention-grabbing plot. Her character will have to decide if she will go for the man she was supposed to marry (Rocco) or the man whom fate seems to choose for her (Luis).
According to head writer Liberty Trinidad, the series presents an interesting take to a seemingly perfect love story, as it explores the moral dilemma of Andrea and how she must decide between the two men who love her. “The show is very current and we hope viewers will be able to relate to Andrea’s predicament because even though their situation may be different, everyone has to make tough decisions especially when it comes to love.”
Directed by Gil Tejada, Yesterday’s Bride premieres October 29 right after Eat Bulaga on Afternoon Prime.
