The weekly automotive publication of The Manila Times took the top plum in the 12th Annual Henry Ford Awards (HFA), having been named as the Best Motoring Section. It is the second-straight year that Fast Times has won the award.

The section bested the automotive pages of all nationally circulated broadsheets, all of which were included in the competition and were evaluated based on content, relevance, consistency and layout quality.

At the 2012 Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. Media Awards that were held in August following the 4th Philippine International Motor Show, Fast Times—edited by Brian Afuang, also The Times’ art director—was also cited as the Best Motoring Page on the Motor Show.

The HFA, handed by Ford Phils., recognizes outstanding work and contributions in automotive journalism where 12 awards are given out in regular and special categories. Ford said tha the HFA “celebrates the critical roles that journalists play in both chronicling and driving the automotive industry.”

“We always look forward to hosting the annual Henry Ford Awards and celebrate the excellence of automotive journalism in the Philippines,” said Ford Phils. President Randy Krieger.

“On our 12th year, we thank the media for their continued commitment to accurate news information and for helping tell the One Ford story to our customers.”

Besides Fast Times, the major winner in this year’s HFA was Top Gear Philippines, which is headed by former Fast Times editor and HFA Hall of Fame winner Vernon Sarne. Top Gear took five awards in print and online categories.

This year, the HFA’s panel of judges was composed of Danilo Arao (assistant vice president for public affairs at the University of the Philippines), Dr. Francine Racho (assistant professor and vice dean of the School of Communications at the University of Asia and the Pacific), Severino Sarmenta Jr. (assistant professor at the School of Communications of Ateneo de Manila University), Jonel Borromeo (Ford dealer principal), Minnie Valencia (vice president for sales and marketing at Ford Phils.) and David Celdran (TV host and producer).
