The University of Santo Tomas on Tuesday conferred on the title Honorary Professor to Lech Walesa, former President of Poland, a title given by the university to people who achieved international eminence and recognized as exceptional.

Walesa, president of Poland from 1990-1995 and a devout Catholic, earned worldwide fame after he successfully led his country in a non-violent revolution against the communist regime.

His love for democracy and undying love for his country not only liberated Poland but also made him a Nobel Peace Prize laureate.

The former Polish premiere received a medal from the university then gave a talk after the rites. His talk focused mainly on how faith played a big role in the attainment of democracy.

Walesa tried to educate the people, especially the younger audience, based on his experience as a revolutionist and the president who made a huge change on his country through his faith.

He shared that his battle with the communist regime 30 years ago seemed impossible but he overcame it because of his faith that God is bigger than his enemies.

Known as the person who lead the transformation of Poland from communist rule to democracy, Walesa faced tough challenges during his term as president of Poland. Walesa shared the experiences he have had during his time and gave keynotes on how to attain the wanted change for the country.

“We were given the choices and we have to make the right choices,” Walesa told the young people in the audience. “Change is possible only if you want sit.”

He said that the Philippines should build its future on the foundation of values.

He also said that the laws of each land should be based on the ten commandments.
