PERSONS with disability (PWD) will be given free rides on Monday at the Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Metro Rail Transit (MRT) as the country joins the world in observing the International Day of PWD.
LRT Authority spokesman Hernando Cabrera said that the free rides will be good only for two hours in the morning and another two hours in the afternoon.
“LRT/MRT free ride for persons with disability [on] 03 December, Monday, from 7 to 9 a.m. and 5 to 7 p.m.,” said Cabrera in his Twitter account.
LRT1 links Roosevelt in Quezon City to Baclaran in Parañaque City, while LRT2 links Claro M. Recto in Manila to Santolan in Marikina City.
On the other hand, MRT3 links Taft Avenue in Pasay City and North Avenue in Quezon City, via Epifanio delos Santos Avenue or EDSA.
The United Nations reported that 15 percent of the world’s population is considered PWD.
According to the United Nations, persons with disabilities “do not have equal access to society or services, including education, employment, health care, transportation, political participation or justice.”
