A police officer from Western Mindanao region is now facing summary dismissal proceedings after he was arrested last week in Zamboanga City for extortion and abuse of authority, officials said Wednesday.
Western Mindanao police Director Chief Supt. Napoleon Estilles named the errant police officer as PO2 Reynaldo Tejano Bello, detailed at Sta. Maria Police Station of Zamboanga City police office.
Estilles said that Bello was arrested by fellow policemen following an entrapment operation in Zamboanga City on Friday.
The police official said that the entrapment operation against Bello was conducted following a series of complaints lodged against him by motorists that were victims of his illegal activity.
Estilles said that elements of Western Mindanao police office conducted the entrapment operation and arrested Bello after receiving money from one the complainants in the vicinity of LTO office in Sta. Barbara, Zamboanga City.
Prior to his arrest, Bello was complained by a motorist he had arrested for alleged traffic violation at the vicinity of Gov. Ramos Ave., on November 20, the police official said.
Estilles added that the rogue policeman impounded the motorist motorcycle at the Sta. Barbara Police Station, and demanded P500 from motorist in exchange for the release of his vehicle.
The motorist reported the incident to the regional headquarters which conducted the entrapment, the police official said, adding Bello is now under custody and facing summary dismissal proceedings.
