The Boracay Foundation Inc. (BFI), which includes leading establishments on the island resort, warned tourists about fake online reservations.
The foundation on Thursday warned its tourists to be extra careful against fake travel agencies who use the Internet for their scams.
The BFI, a group that includes the leading establishments in the island, made the call after a group of European tourists recently went to the country after making an online reservation through a travel agency but was surprised when the resort said that they didn’t make a reservation. BFI learned the incident when the tourist went to the Boracay police and reported the incident.
Further investigations revealed that the said travel agency was already in the blacklist of the resort since October 2012.
Even if the resort was already fully booked, the resort still entertained and accommodated the European tourists but made the call to other people who wanted to visit the famous resort to be careful in online trip bookings to prevent similar cases.
“With this incident, we urge tourists wanting to go to Boracay to be cautious in dealing with online reservations. We in the BFI are currently studying the case to determine how we could be able to prevent it from happening again,” BFI President Jony Salme said.
