The Golden Globes and Academy Awards, two of Hollywood’s biggest award giving bodies, feature quite a different cast of nominees this year, especially in the director’s category. And with Ben

Affleck already winning two Best Director trophies, despite being snubbed at the Oscars, will it be an indication of a very unpredictable awards season?

Affleck had already won the Critics Choice Award prior to his Globes win for the film Argo; but since he has not been nominated at the Oscar in the directing category, it doesn’t give his film an advantage at the said awards leaving the Best Picture field quite open.

It is also the same fate of Globes Best Picture Comedy/Musical winner Les Miserables as its director has also not been nominated for Best Director at the Academy Awards.

The last time a film won Best Picture without a directing nomination was in 1989 when Driving Miss Daisy took home the top prize.

The Globes have a history of failing to indicate the winner of the Best Picture at the Oscars, yet the Globes have nominated all the Oscar winning films for their awards.

In the acting categories, actors who win the Globe usually go on to win the Oscar just like in 2012 when all four actors who took home the Oscar first won in the Golden Globes. Meryl Streep won Best Dramatic Actress for The Iron Lady, while Jean Dujardin won Best Comedy/Musical Actor for his portrayal in The Artist. The Supporting Actor Prizes went to Christopher Plummer for Beginners and Octavia Spencer for The Help.

Anne Hathaway (Les Miserables) continued to win for Best Supporting Actress and she is now expected to win both the Screen Actor’s Guild (SAG) and Oscar awards. Daniel Day-Lewis won for his portrayal as Lincoln and is expected to win the Oscar and SAG awards. Hugh Jackman may have won Best Actor in a Comedy/Musical for Les Miserables but is unlikely that he will be winning any other awards with Daniel Day-Lewis as his competition.
