SINCE the first day world’s pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao rose to boxing greatness and became one of the world’s elite millionaire athletes many years ago, there are only few people in his inner circle that can access him directly any time.
Pacquiao’s younger brother Bobby, wife Jinkee and mother Dionisia are the closest relatives of Pacquiao that can influence him, but aside from them there are also other people in his inner circle.
They are the following:
Bob Arum: The American veteran boxing promoter who owns the Top Rank Promotions that signed Pacquiao to a lucrative contract in December 2006. The 80-year-old lawyer promoter also has the promotion rights of other boxers like Filipino Nonito Donaire Jr. and Brandon Rios, among others.
Arum is also the key in negotiating Pacquiao fights in US in terms of financial aspects and the one who provides great entertainment during the fight night. As one of the boxing great promoters of all time, Arum has put Pacquiao to boxing greatness.
Frederick Steven ‘Freddie’ Roach: The former boxer, who already honed 27 world champions, exactly knows the direct cell number of Pacquiao, whom he considered the country’s national newly found sports treasure.
Backed by Pacquiao’s super natural power-packed and fast punches, the four-time trainer of the year has transformed Pacquiao to a killing machine in the previous years, where he annihilated Oscar Dela Hoya, Miguel Cotto, Ricky Hatton and Antonio Margarito, among others.
Even if Pacquiao retires from boxing, Roach will surely be forever on the side of the Filipino world’s pound-for-pound king. Roach will be remembered by the whole boxing world for his good handling the eight-weight world division champion.
Buboy Fernandez: Pacquiao’s childhood friend in General Santos and the second man-in-charge to train Pacquiao when chief trainer Freddie Roach is away. Fernandez, who also loves motorcycling, is also in the ring corner of Pacquiao every fight and during training.
He is the calming presence every time Pacquiao fights. He can be emotional sometimes too but Pacquiao likes having a familiar voice in his corner. Fernandez also knows everything about Pacquiao – from fighting technique up to his condition.
Nonoy Neri: The assistant of Buboy Fernandez when Pacquiao’s training is ongoing. He was there in General Santos, in Baguio and at the Wildcard gym.
Atty. Franklin Gacal: Manny’s long time lawyer and chief of staff in Congress. Gacal also takes care of Manny’s different legal affairs. He is also the one who checks proposals and fight or sponsorship contracts.
He reports most of the time to Pacquiao.
Alex Ariza: Pacquiao’s strength and conditioning coach who also provides his diet and training program. Ariza also knows his fighter’s limitations in terms of how long their training should take.
Marvin Somodio: He is the local strength and conditioning coach of Pacquiao. He was hired by Roach from Baguio during the Timothy Bradley bout.
Mike Koncz: Although guys in Manny’s inner circle do not like him very—according to articles posted in different boxing websites, Pacquiao’s personal adviser, Koncz, remains a part of Pacquiao’s inner circle because of his loyalty, honesty and creative ideas.
He plays a big part also in MP Promotions and he also reports to Pacquiao after attending to any important meetings mostly abroad particularly in the United States.
He also negotiates with Pacquiao’s huge sponsors abroad including Nike.
Eric Pineda: Manny Pacquiao’s long time business manager who engages and signs up the people’s champ to different business establishments.
He is also talking with several local company owners who like to sponsor Pacquiao or create a tie-ups with him.
Chavit Singson: He is Pacquiao’s main supporter who has travelled all the way with Pacquiao since the beginning of his career.
The Ilocos Sur governor treats Pacquiao likes his own son and sometimes Pacquiao borrows his private plane to go from Manila to Mindanao areas. He also supported Manny’s congressional bid in Saranggani in the last election.
Rex Wakee Salud: Pacquiao’s long time friend and confidante who owns a boxing gym in Cebu City, where Pacquiao sometimes trains. He serves also as Team Pacquiao adviser.
