‘Wolves snap Thunder’s 12-game win streak

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota: Kevin Love scored 28 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Minnesota over Oklahoma City, 99-93, on Thursday, snapping the Thunder’s team-record
12-game NBA win streak.

Montenegrin center Nikola Pekovic added 24 points and 10 rebounds for the Timberwolves, who seized a 30-18 lead after the first quarter and held off the Thunder down the stretch for the victory over the NBA’s winningest team.

Oklahoma City fell to 21-5, still the best record in the NBA over the New York Knicks and Los Angeles Clippers, both 19-6. The Timberwolves improved to 13-11 but remained seven games behind the Thunder in the Northwest division.

Kevin Durant scored a game-high 33 points to lead the Thunder while Russell Westbrook added 30 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists but shot only 9-of-29 from the field and made eight turnovers.

Spain’s Serge Ibaka had 14 points and nine rebounds for Oklahoma City.

J.J. Barea came off the bench to score 18 points for Minnesota while Russian guard Alexei Shved contributed 12 points and 12 assists for the T-Wolves, who had lost their prior 12 meetings with the Thunder.

Spanish point guard Ricky Rubio, who returned from a knee injury last Saturday but did not play in a Tuesday loss to Miami, came off the bench to contribute three rebounds and three assists in 18 minutes on the court.

Oklahoma City, the NBA’s top-scoring team, managed only 40 percent shooting from the field.
