Race to build classrooms commences January 13

Leading telecommunications company Globe Telecom has pledged its support for TEN Moves Run For 10, a fun run to be held in Ayala Triangle Gardens, Makati City on January 13, 2013 simultaneous with 10 other provinces nationwide.

Rob Nazal, Globe Head of Corporate Social Responsibility, said that the 300-strong Globe Power Speed Runners club has expressed willingness to join Run For 10 which will also be organized in Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Dipolog, Dumaguete, Legazpi, Pampanga, Tarlac, Zamboanga, and Zamboanga Sibugay.

But more than running for a cause, Globe will be challenging the 300 runners to get at least 10 supporters each.  In turn, every supporter will be asked to pledge P100 and to recruit 10 more people who will donate the same amount, and so on and so forth.

“This is in keeping with the 10 principle.  We want to encourage everyone to take part in the building of classrooms by asking them to donate in small amounts even if they cannot join the run itself.  Globe always considers education a priority because we firmly believe that the greatest evolution of our society can only stem from empowerment through education,” Nazal said.

TEN Moves, being spearheaded by the League of Corporate Foundations and the Philippine Business for Social Progress in partnership with the Department of Education, is the private sector and citizens’ response to address the classroom backlog in the country. It is most relevant these days in view of the devastation caused by Typhoon Pablo which damaged 170 classrooms in Compostela Valley and 182 more in Davao Oriental.
