UAAP women’s volley action resumes Jan 5

The women’s volleyball competitions in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 75 resume on January 5 at the Arena in San Juan City, with four teams hoping to catch up with tournament leaders.


After a two-week break, the battle for supremacy continues as former champions University of Santo Tomas (UST) Tigresses take on the University of the East (UE) Lady Warriors, and the rejuvenated National University (NU) Lady Bulldogs battle the dangerous Far Eastern University (FEU) Lady Tamaraws side.

UST is currently at fourth behind pacesetting Ateneo de Manila University (5-0), defending champion De La Salle University (4-1) and Adamson University (3-1). NU is at fifth with 2-3 followed by FEU with 1-3, University of the Philippines (UP) with 1-4 and UE with 0-4.

Meanwhile, La Salle is still leading the overall championship race in the seniors division.

The Green Archers earned more points in four events in the second semester to raise their score to 190. La Salle placed third in the men’s and women’s fencing and men’s athletics and wound up fourth in the women’s athletics.

Based in UAAP point system, first placer gets 15 points while second takes 12, third earns 10, fourth pockets eight, fifth receives six, sixth obtains four, seventh picks up two and eighth gains one.

Defending overall champion UST has 186 for second followed by FEU (137), Ateneo (133), UP (128), UE (107), NU (73) and Adamson (55).

There are 10 more events to be played in the second semester. They are men’s and women’s volleyball, tennis, chess, football, and men’s baseball and women’s softball.
