Head coach Chot Reyes has named 12 players to the Smart Gilas lineup for the 2013 Dubai Invitational Basketball Cup scheduled on January 10 to 19 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Naturalized player Marcus Douthit will spearhead the country’s campaign along with Philippine Basketball Association standouts Jay-R Reyes and Ronjay Buenafe of Meralco Bolts and Nino Canaleta of Air 21 Express.

Also in the list are Smart Gilas Cadet Pool Kevin Alas of Colegio de San Juan de Letran, Ryan Roose Garcia of Far Eastern University, Ronald Pascual of San Sebastian College-Recoletos, Jake Pascual of San Beda College, Greg Slaughter of Ateneo de Manila University, and Matt Ganuelas Rosser and Garvo Lanete.

Filipino-American Justin Melton completes the lineup. He is a point guard from Mount Olive College.

Reyes has allotted two vacant slots for Japeth Aguilar and another Filipino-American Isaac Holstein. Aguilar is still in the US to purse his dream of playing in the National Basketball Association Developmental League while Holstein is a 6-foot-11 player from West Virginia State University.

Jones Cup Most Valuable Player LA Tenorio of Barangay Ginebra and Gary David of Globalport Batang Pier were actually included in the list but opted to skip due to injuries.

Besides the Dubai Invitational, the Smart Gilas will also play in 2013 King’s Cup on January 22 to 27 in Hong Kong.
