Ateneo’s Valdez looms as Best Spiker

Ateneo de Manila University ace spiker Alyssa Valdez is leading the scoring department of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 75 women’s volleyball tournament.


Valdez, a veteran of the Asian Youth Games, amassed a total output of 101 points to lead the Lady Eagles to an unblemished 5-0 card. So far, she’s also the top candidate for the Best Spiker award with 91 attacks.

National University’s (NU) Dindin Santiago and Myla Pablo occupied the No. 2 and No. 3 positions in the scoring area with 94 and 85 points, respectively.

Rounding out the Top 10 are No. 4 Rosemarie Vargas of Far Eastern University (65), No. 5 Fille Saint Merced Cainglet of Ateneo (57), No. 6 reigning Most Valuable Player Abigail Marano of De La Salle University (54), No. 7 Shiela Mare Pineda (53) and Ma. Paulina Soriano (53) of Adamson University, Maricar Nepomuceno of NU (53), and No. 10 Mika Aereen Reyes of La Salle (52).

Defensive gem Jen Reyes of NU, on the other hand, dominated the reception and digging skills. She tallied 65 digs and 94 excellent receptions.

Marano remained the tournament’s best blocker with 14 denials while Santiago nailed 13 aces to lead the best server list.
