Tigresses, Lady Bulldogs set for war in UAAP volley

Former champion University of Santo Tomas (UST) and host National University (NU) will try to salvage win No. 3 when they face separate foes in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 75 women’s volleyball at the Arena in San Juan City.

UST takes on University of the East at 2 p.m. while NU battles Far Eastern University at 3:30 p.m.

The Tigresses are currently at fourth with 2-2 mark followed by the Lady Bulldogs at fifth with 2-3 card. FEU has 1-3 slate while UE is still the only team without a single win in four games.

UST scored a 25-18, 25-11, 25-14 win over University of the Philippines last December 15.

Skipper Judy Ann Caballejo and Maru Banaticla are expected to lead the onslaught of the
Tigresses along with veteran Maika Ortiz and setter Lorin Lantin while UE will be banking on Sarina Bulan, Leuseth Dawis, Shiesa Nebrida and playmaker Grace Masangkay.

NU, on the other hand, is looking to bounce back as it is coming off back-to-back losses against tournament leader Ateneo de Manila University (25-16, 32-30, 21-25, 13-25, 13-15) and defending champion De La Salle University (12-25, 17-25, 19-25).

Power hitters Dindin Santiago, Myla Pablo, Maricar Nepomuceno and rookie Aiko Urdas will be in the frontline of NU’s attack.

But it won’t be easy for NU as FEU is also aiming to improve its 1-3 mark. Outside spiker Rosemarie Vargas, who is ranked No. 4 in scoring, must step up anew for the Lady Tamaraws as well as Wenneth Eulalio, Mayjorie Roxas and Gyzelle Sy.
