Promising junior netter Jurence Zosimo Mendoza will be seeing action in the 2013 Loy Yang Traralgon International—a preseason tournament of the prestigious Australian Open Junior Championships.
The 16-year-old Mendoza will be up against some of the world’s bets junior players in the grade one tournament scheduled on January 12 to 17 at the Traralgon Tennis Complex in Victoria, Australia.
Among the prominent names in the field are world ranked No. 3 Gian Luigi of Italy, No. 4 Nick Kyrgios of Australia, No. 7 Lasio Djere of Serbia, No. 10 Elias Ymer of Sweden, No. 13 Christian Garin of Chile and No. 15 Stefano Napolitano of Italy.
Mendoza ended the 2012 season at No. 55. He rules the singles event of the Chickeeduck Hong Kong Open Junior Tennis Championships 2012 in October and the doubles category of the China Junior 15 - Xiamen along with Yu Cheng-Yu of Taiwan in September.
After the Loy Yang Traralgon tournament, Mendoza shifts his sights on the Australian Open on January 19 to 26 in Melbourne.
Meanwhile, Johnny Arcilla and Anna Clarice Patrimonio will represent the country in the 2013 Kia Amateur Australian Open tennis championships slated next week in Melbourne.
Arcilla earned the right to compete in the Australian Open side event after topping the men’s singles of the 2012 Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) Open.
The 19-year-old Patrimonio, for her part, replaced the PCA Open ladies’ singles winner Marian Jade Capadocia, 17, who is ineligible to play since the Kia Amateur is an 18-over event.
