University of Santo Tomas (UST) survived Adamson University, 25-18, 22-25, 25-21, 18-25, 15-13, to take the solo third spot in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 75 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at the Arena in San Juan City.
The Tigresses improved to 4-2 card behind unbeaten Ateneo de Manila University (6-0) and defending champion De La Salle University (5-1).
Judy Ann Caballejo, Maika Ortiz and Pamela Lastimosa sizzled for UST with 15 points each while Carmela Tunay, who scored the game-winning attack, added 11.
The Lady Falcons, on the other hand, dropped to fourth with 3-3 along with idle National University (NU). Ma. Paulina Soriano paced Adamson with 25 points.
Earlier, Far Eastern University (FEU) overpowered University of the East (UE), 25-19, 25-18, 25-15, for its second win.
Quicker Wenneth Eulalio unleashed 15 points—11 from attacks and three from the service area—as the Lady Tamaraws rolled to 2-4.
Open spiker Rosemarie Vargas contributed 10 points while setter Gyzelle Sy and utility attacker Mayjorie Roxas chipped in nine and eight points, respectively, in that match that lasted for just 66 minutes.
The Lady Warriors are still winless in six games.
Team captain Ma. Leuseth Dawis led UE with eight hits while Sarina Bulan and Shiesa Nebrida combined for 11 points.
In the men’s division, the FEU Tamaraws turned back the Ateneo Blue Eagles, 25-15, 25-20, 25-23, to grab their fifth win. Ateneo fell to 1-5 mark.
Karl Ian de la Calzada topscored for FEU with 13 hits.
In other match, Red Christensen notched 13 points to power De La Salle University past University of the Philippines, 25-20, 25-19, 25-18. It was La Salle’s third win in six outings while UP absorbed its fifth loss against one win.
