Former world champion Dennis Orcollo will be representing the country in the prestigious 2013 World Games billiards competition scheduled on July 25 to August 4 in Cali, Colombia.
Orcollo, a gold medalist in the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games and 2011 Palembang Southeast Asian Games, takes part in the men’s 9-Ball and 8-Ball events of the quadrennial meet.
Prior to the World Games, Orcollo will be seeing in action in the World 8-Ball Championships in April, World 10-Ball Championships in June and US Open 10-Ball in July.
The Philippine Bowling Association, the Wushu Federation of the Philippines and the Philippine Dancesports Association, are also expected to send athletes in the 107-nation tournament.
In the 2009 edition held in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, the Philippine contingent went home with one bronze medal courtesy of veteran campaigner Liza del Rosario. She placed third in the bowling tenpin women’s singles.
Besides billiards, bowling, wushu and dancesports, other events in the World Games are gymnastics, artistic roller skating, beach handball, canoe polo, fistball, futsal, korfball, racquetball, rugby sevens, softball, squash, jiu-jitsu, karate, sumo, boules, archery, powerlifting, tug of war, air sports, finswimming, sport climbing and duathlon.
