Longtime partners Filipino Treat Conrad Huey and British Dominic Inglot will begin their campaign today in the men’s doubles of the prestigious 2013 Australian Open in Melbourne.
Huey and Inglot will be facing an up-hill battle as they go up against the fourth-seeded Max Mirnyi of Belarus and Horia Tecau of Romania in the opening round of the first Grand Slam event of the year.
The Filipino-British tandem has been playing together for the past years. They are coming off a quarterfinal finish in the Qatar Exxonmobil Open in Doha early this month.
Last year, Huey and Inglot won a couple of titles—the Nottingham Challenger in June and Washington Futures in July—and three runner-up honors in Basel, Switzerland in October, Houston, Texas in April and Heilbron, Germany in January.
They also reached the Last 16 of the 2012 French Open.
In 2012 Australian Open, the 27-year-old Huey made it to the second round with former partner Carsten Ball of Australia.
Minryi and Tecau, on the other hand, are holding higher rankings in the Association of Tennis Professionals doubles.
The 35-year-old Minryi is currently ranked seventh while Tecau, a semifinalist in the 2012 Australian Open doubles, is in eighth spot.
