Four Filipinos stayed unbeaten after three rounds in the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Cup International Chess Championships being held at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Adria-tico, Manila.
Grandmasters (GM) Mark Pa-ragua and Darwin Laylo, and FIDE Masters (FM) Haridas Pascua and Randy Segarra posted their third straight victories to share the lead with FM Gom-bosuren Munkhgal of Mongolia with 3.0 points.
Paragua outclassed National Master (NM) Nelson Villanueva; Laylo whipped FM David Elorta; Pascua beat Nelson Mariano 3rd; and Segarra nipped International Master Barlo Nadera.
Munkhgal, for his part, defeated his compatriot GM-elect Bayarsa-ikhan Gundavaa.
In the fourth round, Paragua battles Munkhgal while Pascua takes on Laylo, Segarra faces GM Joey Antonio, who outplayed NM Roger Sarip in their third-round match.
Antonio is in a group of 2.5 pointers along with NM Rustum Tolentino, FM Julius Joseph de Ramos and NM Hamed Nouri.
Russian GM Aleksandr Rakhma-nov, who lost to Elorta in the second round, vented his ire on FM Mari Joseph Turqueza to stay in hunt with 2 points in the tournament which offers a whopping $30,000 cash prize.
World Chess Cup-bound GM Oliver Barbosa blasted IM Joel Pimentel to join Rakhmanov with 2 points.
