Maersk Global Service Centres (Philippines) Limited or Maersk GSC, Manila has been an active earth warrior since 2006. The company has been holding its annual tree planting activities at
Ipo Dam, in Norzaagaray, Bulacan in partnership with DENR and the local government. The group’s aim is to plant as many trees as they can to restore what was lost in nature due to logging. The tree planting activity of Maersk GSC has been warmly supported by its employees.
Each year, over a hundred employees register to the activity to help in re-planting the trees that were lost. Especially now that most of the employees once became victims of Ondoy and
Habagat, the eagerness to do something to help Mother Nature survive grew.
For this year, Maersk GSC, headed by the CSR team, has partnered with Haribon Foundation.
The company has adopted and planted native seedlings at Baras, Rizal on Saturday of October 20, 2012 in support of Haribon’s ROAD to 2020, which aims to bring back 1 million hectares of rainforests using native trees. Manila GSC found the project more sustainable in bringing back what was lost due to human consumption. It will not only restore the forests, but it will also bring back biodiversity.
The tree planting at Baras was a success with over a hundred participants who planted over 500 native seedlings.
Aside from tree planting, Maersk GSC also supports initiatives in conserving our natural resources by means of waste segregation, use of recycled paper for tissue papers and recycling of printed papers as memo pads or notebooks. The company also has a recycling box where employees can drop plastic containers, old newspapers and others for recycling.
This year, the company also held its first ever clean-up climb at Mt. Pico de Loro on April 28, 2012. The group of climbers was able to bring down10 big sacks full of trashes.
Maersk Global Service Centres (Philippines) Limited is serious in caring for Mother Nature. The company believes that in caring for nature, we not only protect and save what is left for us, but also ensure the greener future for the next generation.
