HARI Ecovan, which was launched last April 22, is a library and multimedia center conveniently rolled into one van that can be easily transferred from school to school.
For the second half of 2012, Haribon Foundation brought this unique environmental educational experience to public elementary school students of Metro Manila in order to reach out to the youth and encourage them to become future conservation ambassadors of the country.
From August to November, the HARI Ecovan visited eight public elementary schools in Quezon, Pasig, Marikina and Makati cities. Over 3,000 students, mainly from the fifth and sixth grade levels, participated in learning sessions on Philippine forests and biodiversity. Storytelling sessions about nature and the environment were also conducted to kindergarten and first grade pupils.
For 2013, Haribon Foundation aims to bring the HARI Ecovan learning sessions to 60 public elementary schools within Metro Manila, with additional modules focusing on solid waste management as well as water and energy conservation.
To keep the van sustainably rolling, it needs organizations and individuals willing to sponsor the van in various public schools around Metro Manila. Interested parties may contact Haribon Foundation to learn more about the sponsorship program.
