Sayaw Pinoy, the longest-running and most attended program of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) during the Philippines Arts Festival (PAF) will once again tour different parts of the country this February.
Sayaw Pinoy is the flagship project of the National Committee on Dance (NCD) of the NCCA’s Subcommission on the Arts lead by NCD head Shirley Halili-Cruz.
This year, Sayaw Pinoy includes dance workshops for interested participants which will be conducted by different local groups. Also, local choreographers will have a chance to meet with each other and have a dialogue about the concerns about dance in the Philippines. These programs were done due to the commitment made by the NCCA Subcommission on the Arts to assist the Department of Education’s Special Program for the Arts.
Since its inception 11 years ago, the flagship project of NCD has been providing opportunities to young Filipino dance groups to manifest their talent all over the country.
It also gives emerging and small dance organizations to have an opportunity to perform and learn from professional dance companies. This is also a venue for the local groups to showcase their cultural identities through dance to other communities.
Expect various performances and workshops of different kinds of dances such as indigenous dances, folk dances, classical ballet, modern and contemporary dances and hip-hop, among others.
Sayaw Pinoy 2013 will start at Bicol University in Legaspi city on February 1, 2013. It will then move the next day to Sorsogon City. On February 3, 2013, Sayaw pinoy will simultaneously be held at Iriga City and in Luneta Park for the “Concert at the Park” show. Sayaw Pinoy performances will be repeated in Luneta Park’s “Concert at the Park” on February 10, 17 and 24, 2013.
On February 4 and 5, 2013, Sayaw Pinoy will be at the cities of Daraga and Naga, respectively. Ten provinces and municipalities of Zamboanga del Sur will be able to witness Sayaw Pinoy from February 8 to 12, 2013.
Meanwhile towns on Masbate such as Masbate City, Placer, Claveria, Dimasalang and Esperanza will be able to watch the show on February 15 to 19, 2013. There will also be performances on SM and Star Malls from February 22 to 25.
