The award-winning documentary Give Up Tomorrow is now available on DVD for the Philippine market. Directed by Michael Collins and produced by Marty Syjuco, the film traces the 15-year
struggle of Paco Larrañaga and the six other men who were accused of a grisly crime in what was called Cebu’s trial of the century. Hailed as a “Kafka-esque extravaganza” the documentary is critically acclaimed and has gathered 16 awards from all over the world.
The Philippine edition of the DVD features two hours of bonus extras, culled from the wealth of material the filmmakers had from their own incredible journey in making the film. “We spent seven years doing this and we compiled over 400 hours of incredible footage,” says Marty Syjuco. “But final cut of the film could only be 90 minutes long. A story of this scale really deserves a six part series! But now with the Philippine DVD we’re able to release all this great material and provide answers to many of your questions.”
The DVD includes deleted scenes, filmmaker interviews (produced by the USA’s Documentary Channel), festival highlights (including the world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, the Philippine premiere at Cinemalaya, the emotional premiere in Cebu and the San Sebastian Human Rights Film Festival screening, which Paco Larrañaga was allowed to attend), and a special series called Revelations: interviews with different witnesses of both the prosecution and the defense.
“We spent almost two years travelling with the film and it has been such an emotional experience and we wanted to share that—which is why we included the premieres and highlights of this journey,” shares Marty Syjuco. “Even after playing for three weeks in cinemas in the Philippines, we realize that many people have not seen the film, so with the release of the DVD now everyone can see Give Up Tomorrow,” he says.
The special Philippine edition DVD of Give Up Tomorrow is available at Fully Booked (Bonifacio High Street, Rockwell, EDSA Shangri-la Hotel, Greenhills Promenade, Eastwood, Ayala Center Cebu, andAbreeza Mall Davao), All Flip-Flops stores, and online www.zombadings.com/zombastore (nationwide shipping available).
