SINGAPORE: Oil prices rose above $51 in technical  Asian trade Friday as traders bought back positions in the market despite a sharp rise in US gasoline stocks, dealers said.

At 12:15 p.m. (0415 GMT), New York’s main contract, light sweet crude for delivery in June, was up 47 cents to $51.30 a barrel after closing at $50.83 in New York overnight.
