THE downpour last week has killed 43 persons, with more than 1 million people displaced. The number is expected to increase as torrential monsoon rains continue to batter Metro Manila and its environs Wednesday, civil defense officials said.

Most of the deaths were due to drowning and landslides. Since Wednesday afternoon, nine is recorded injured and one still missing, reports from the Camp Aguinaldo-based Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said.
