HAGONOY, Bulacan—The town council of this fishing town declared on Tuesday a state of calamity, three days after floods inundated its 26 barangays and ravaged the fishponds that constitute the backbone of its economy.
But Mayor Felix Ople pinned his hopes on the usual resilience of Hagonoy folk and said the town’s fishpond industry will be back on its feet within three months, or by December this year.
