Kenneth de la Cruz, the eldest child of a poor family from Novaliches who developed end-stage renal disease (ESRD), received heart-warming support from benevolent souls despite the economic difficulties now besetting the country.

Kenneth started dialysis treatment in May 2002 when he was still 13 years old and his mother, Cecilia Abutin, a single parent who used to work as an elementary teacher, was forced to resign to attend to his ailing son.
