AT least 64 lawmakers have pledged a month’s salary to the National Treasury as their personal contribution to help head off a fiscal crisis and in response to calls for sacrifice by top officials.

Lakas Rep. Robert Ace Barbers of Surigao del Norte, chair of the Committee on Accounts, said more his colleagues would let go of a month’s basic pay to set an example for Filipinos, particularly the rich, who are being called upon to do their share by donating cash and jewelry.
