TWO senators on Wednesday recommended to the Department of Energy to pass the 17.37 centavos per kilowatt increase sought by the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) to the state-owned National Transmission Co. (Transco) to spare consumers another power-rate hike.
Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago, chair of the Senate Committee on Energy, said although Transco rates were designed around a return-on-rate base of 12.3 percent, it is actually making 16.6 percent.
